As a mom of autistic twins who love the water, Swim Angelfish has provided my boys with the ability to swim and be safe in the water. Their program not only helps with important life skills but swimming and being in the water gives them regulation and a sense of calm. I love what Swim Angelfish instructors have done for my boys!

My daughter who was diagnosed with anxiety early on struggled in most mainstream swim lessons with other peers of similar age, so much so that we stopped swim lessons. When I learned about Swim Angelfish we gave it a try at 5 years old. WOW! She began swimming with confidence, at her own pace, but was challenged to progress her skills. In no time, she swims independently, and brags that she doesn’t “hold her nose” underwater, like her friends!

My son who is typical for his age demonstrates severe anxiety with swim lessons, and after JUST 1 lesson with Swim Angelfish, he swam independently, no bubbles, and entire lap, smiling!

Thank you to the excellent, skilled instructors that have a true passion for what they do!

Since we started coming to Swim Angelfish my children’s swimming skills have grown tremendously. My boys now have the confidence and skills that they can take with them through their life. They enjoy the water and now have basic skills to keep them confident and safe. The instructors at Swim Angelfish are kind, patient, and experienced. They support your child in helping them develop functional skills in a safe, clean, and secure environment. The instructors have shared their knowledge with me so I can take those lessons and use them in the world. I would highly recommend Swim Angelfish to every family.

Swim Angelfish lessons has impacted my daughter with increased water safety skills, strength, teamwork, and self-confidence. Despite being in swim lessons throughout her life, there were certain skills and nuances that were not being addressed with typical lessons. The Swim Angelfish staff have solid knowledge in regard to Autism and how certain sensitivities affect swimming and/or learning. They understand how to reach my daughter and meet her needs in an aquatic environment, and she has hugely benefitted from this experience.

As parents of our very active (never stopping!) son who is encouraged by both positive and negative attention, we looked for a way to channel his energy and give him a structured approach to handle various life situations (which were difficult several years ago). When we started with Swim Angelfish, we noticed Cindy’s and the other instructors’ extensive knowledge of autism and how to work with the children and channel their behavior into playful instructions, while also teaching us as parents at the same time.

This was such an eye-opener and a great resource for continued teaching no matter what the level or ability of swimmers. I have enjoyed learning the skills and the roadblocks with strategies. Thank you for the opportunity to be trained in [sic] Swim Whisperers and I know I will have so much more success teaching.

A lot of great information that I can start implementing in an upcoming fall session. I love the strategies for entering and asking permission with a non-verbal student.

I really enjoyed both of these courses and thought they were very helpful. I will absolutely be utilizing these techniques in to my sessions. I also was able to use the YouTube video on equipment to ask management at my clinic to order other items for sessions.

I have just completed the Splashing into Reflexes with Pediatric Aquatic Therapy course. I loved it! I have a swim school in Trinidad and Tobago and I just love what I do and want to keep learning and growing and understanding different methods while working with these amazing humans. Everything about this course was so helpful.

There have been many times as a swim instructor where I’ve encountered a roadblock with a swimmer and constantly feel like I’m “spinning my wheels” and not getting anywhere. This all changed when I got my Swim Whisperers certification. Swim Whisperers gives me the tools necessary to identify the roadblocks I encounter and helps me understand why the roadblocks are there and what I can do to help a swimmer overcome these obstacles. I’m able to assess, reassess, and tweak my programs with the help of the Swim Whisperer webinars and discussion boards to make swimming possible for EVERYONE. I am extremely proud to be a Swim Whisperer and have had many wonderful experiences since becoming certified. I cannot recommend this training enough!

You two and what you have developed…is beyond something to be proud of. You are changing families’ lives. I had a parent say to me how arduous it was going to family picnics or vacations because both his children with autism were fearless around water with no skills at all. He said since Swin Angelfish he and his wife can go camping, to picnics and pool parties, and enjoy themselves without the fear of being on guard for their boys. Not only has the program provided them with the skills to be safe around water it has also aided them in better social skills in group settings and has calmed their little souls a bit. I’m so proud to have brought this to the Warren County YMCA and I hope your work continues forever.

Wow. I’m amazed with the careful detail in this program, and how Swim Angelfish has made an in-depth study of these remarkable children, how they learn and respond and adapt to the water. Amazing!

My son started with Swim Angelfish 5 years ago due to low muscle tone and sensory issues. He went from being petrified of the water to being a very strong swimmer. He has made so much progress that he is now able to be a member of the Swim Group at the local YMCA. Every child is different and every child learns differently, they took the time to determine the best way to engage my son and helped him flourish.

– Andy Thorpe, Parent

2023-03-22T09:35:28-04:00

My son has multiple disabilities – autism and low muscle tone are among them. He has been swimming with the PT and OT swim instructors at Swim Angelfish since he was about 3 years old (he’s 12 now). He has also participated in an array of other therapies and programs for children with special needs and I can say, hands down, that Swim Angelfish has been the most productive (and fun!) therapy he has had.

We’ve tried swim lessons in the past but swimming with a certified Swim Whisperer makes all the difference because they truly understand how best to support and teach children with disabilities. After swim sessions, I’ve been able to take my son out to a seated lunch and even get a haircut, tasks that are traditionally very difficult for him. He’s a sensory seeker and the swim session helps him to be incredibly regulated. The deep pressure of the water and the ability of his instructor to facilitate his learning of swim safety is truly amazing.

Our son took a bath after the swim lesson with you. Before that, we had to do sponge baths. My husband and I honestly pictured his first lesson to be on the pool steps, having panic attacks and going in and out of the pool. I really wasn’t sure if he’d even go in the pool that day. I was blown away by how good he was with you. I was shocked with what he was doing with you. Thank you for having such a wonderful way with him. You have no idea how much this means to us to see his self-confidence getting built up.

We felt that we needed to provide additional training for staff who work with children with special needs. In order to best meet the needs of our children and offer the best program possible, we were thrilled to learn the Swim Angelfish methods. These methods allowed us to better communicate with our kids and to learn to listen to what they say whether verbal or non-verbal. Without Swim Angelfish, our kids would not progress through our swim lesson program with the skill and proficiency that they have.
