Autism & Diverse Programming Options for All Abilities and Ages at CAMS

We’re excited to be heading to California! Cindy and Ailene will be presenting at the California Aquatic Management School (CAMS), hosted by the CPRS Aquatic Section, and connecting with aquatic professionals who are working to create more inclusive opportunities in their communities.
Preparing for Every Swimmer Who Walks Through Your Door
With growing numbers of swimmers with autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivities, Down syndrome, and physical and motor challenges, aquatic organizations are looking for practical ways to expand their programming and better support the people and families they serve.
In this session, ‘Autism & Diverse Programing for Options for All Abilities and Ages’, Cindy and Ailene will take a deep dive into diverse programming options that go beyond traditional swim lessons, helping aquatic professionals think about how their programs can meet swimmers at different ages, abilities and stages of their aquatic journey.
You’ll explore four inclusive group-based approaches:
- Sensory Swim Sessions — Create calm, structured and sensory-friendly opportunities that help reduce barriers to participation.
- Swim Groups — Use small, ability-based groups to build water skills, peer connection and confidence.
- Aquatic Fitness — Extend access to the water for older children, teens and adults through movement, wellness and social connection.
- Parent-Child Therapeutic Approaches — Support families with strategies that build comfort, participation and progress in the aquatic environment.
Whether you’re developing an adaptive program or looking for ways to strengthen what you already offer, this session will provide practical ideas to help you create more inclusive, engaging and sustainable aquatic experiences for every swimmer.
