These are important drowning prevention safety tips for using a rescue tube in your adaptive aquatics swim lessons. Let’s work together to educate families, swimmers, and parents, on the importance of becoming familiar with a rescue tube.
If your child has anxiety, discomfort or difficulty processing information, familiarizing them with a rescue tube will give them hands-on experience so that if they ever need to use one they will be comfortable with the look, feel and idea of holding the tube.
You can find a rescue tube by the lifeguard station at your local aquatic center. Be sure to ask the aquatic staff if you can borrow the rescue tube and let them know that you are working to familiarize your swimmer with it.
If you are uncomfortable, you can ask for a private swim lesson and let them know that your goal is to get your child comfortable with a rescue tube. Make sure to bring one out in your group swim lessons as well. Just a little practice with knowing what to do with it can save a life!
